Did you know that every day, around 5.5 million animals get killed by vehicles? The majority of those bodies are left alone for nature to break and decompose them, but a few select people quickly find opportunity in the otherwise forgotten.
Majorly called oddity collecting, curiosity collecting, or vulture culture, the act of setting out into nature to find skulls, bones, or deceased animals (to bury and collect the bones afterward) is a hobby many people find interest in. While it may seem gross, unusual, and odd to most of the public, this hobby’s sole purpose is rooted in love.
A significant principle in vulture culture is humanity and respect for the creature. A huge “no” is to kill the animal purposefully for the artist’s wants. Instead, they search for an already dead animal and honor their previous life on Earth. Somebody can do this in a multitude of ways, and the end product can either be kept by the artisan or sold to other oddity lovers.
Seeing a hit animal on the road can give you a sinking gut feeling, especially if you’ve lost a pet animal before. However, you can find peace by knowing some people are willing to ensure that the unfortunate creature can be loved forever.
