Should Stores Limit the use of Plastic Bags

For most people, plastic bags are essential for shopping, whether it’s at grocery stores or shopping for clothes. However, plastic bags have actually been harming the environment.

Plastic bags are bad for the environment and highly contribute to climate change. The extraction and manufacturing of the materials to make the bags creates greenhouse gases, which is the main cause of climate change.

Plastic bags are not degradable, meaning they don’t break down, and they end up in the oceans being eaten by the wildlife. Recycling plastic bags doesn’t help the fact that some will end up polluting oceans and land. Putting a tax on them will encourage people to bring their own reusable bags instead of paying more money on plastic bags. This is good because less bags will end up in the environment harming the animals.

Banning plastic bags is helpful to save money as well because producing the bags is very expensive. Plastic bags are also very hard to get rid of, therefore people tend to leave them anywhere and this can lead to the bag getting in oceans. Banning plastic bags would help cities focus on bigger environmental issues.

More importantly, most people are ready for the ban, therefore cities should just apply it. Banning plastic bags will be safer for the environment, and that should be what cities should be most concerned about.
