TikTok Creates a New Craze of Book Readers

Alexa Anderson, Arts and Entertainment Writer

Tiktok has been popular for years now among teenage audiences. Stereotypically, this app is considered bad and harmful, but the surprising helpfulness of this all is revealing.

Recently on people’s for you pages (recommended page), they have been seeing TikTok accounts completely dedicated to reading. This new category is called BookTok.

This isn’t the first time we have seen this happen. There is also FoodTok, where chefs show a range of easy to hard recipes for people to try out. There is a part of TikTok dedicated to mental health, helping people who need help. There is another part that is just fun facts for people to learn. There are many other kinds of TikToks that are helping.

BookTok has gotten hundreds of people interested in reading. Creators talk about their favorite books, review books, and even have book clubs, where everyone reads one chapter and can talk about it in the comments.

This new crazy of readers inspired barns and noble to create a TikTok section in their stores. This is filled with some of the most recommended books by TikTok creators like They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera, The Selection Series by Keira Cass, Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller, and more.
