Last week, eighth grade science students in Mrs. Bosinger and Ms. Prescott’s classes took a trip to the former home-ec room and made melted lollipop candies using Jolly Ranchers.

It was all part of an investigation involving melting, and physical and chemical changes.

Here’s how to make your own:

  1. Gather the materials: 3 Jolly Ranchers candies and a popsicle stick.
  2. Preheat the oven to 350℉.
  3. Prepare a small pan with one sheet of parchment paper.
  4. Spread three Jolly Ranchers on the tip of the popsicle stick. They may not stick; this is fine.
  5. Heat the popsicle stick with Jolly Ranchers in the oven for about five minutes (or until the Jolly Ranchers melt and start bubbling).
  6. Carefully remove the pan from the oven and leave the lollipop on a counter to cool for five to ten minutes.
  7. Remove the lollipop from the pan and enjoy!

For safety reasons, please make sure an adult is aware that you are using the oven.
