Halloween is recognized as a day where people of all ages get receive candy from going door to door, but Halloween couldn’t have just appeared out of nowhere. How was Halloween created and why do we celebrate it?

For people alive 2,000 years ago, Halloween was a day where Celts would celebrate their new year. This day marked the end of summer and the harvest season, but also welcomed the colder, dark winter season.

On November 1, some people believed the souls of the dead returned to their homes. In recognition of this, people dressed in costumes and lit bonfires in order to scare off unwanted spirits.

Over time, Halloween began to evolve into a day that had activities such as trick-or-treating, gathering with family, wearing costumes, eating a variety of treats, and carving jack-o-lanterns.
