Mrs. Funicelli is one of our math teachers. Students never really learn about their teacher. Below is a Q&A with her.

Q: Why did you choose to become a teacher?

A:  I always liked school because I had some amazing teachers who challenged me. I

wanted to try to inspire to love learning for the sake of learning.

Q: How long have you been teaching?

A:  This is my 26th year of teaching.

Q: What is it like teaching middle schoolers?

A: I taught elementary school for many years, and there really is no difference except that you all are bigger. You make me laugh. You can make me frustrated. I love to see how much you have matured by the time the end of 8th grade comes.

Q: Why did you choose to come teach at Wellington Landings?

A: My twins, Aidan and Tristan, went to Wellington Landings, and I knew that the teachers here were amazing. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.

Q: How are you feeling about this school year? Why?

A:  At first I was a little anxious about all of the changes that have happened in math. Now,  I am feeling focused on getting my students to realize that math is all about progress, not perfection.

Q: What are your teaching strategies to help your students learn better?

A: Ask any of my students what “read the room” or “give yourself a visual” means.

Q: What are your hobbies outside of school?

A: I am such a math nerd that I spend a lot of time tutoring math. I also love going to

theme parks. I haven’t ridden Velocicoaster yet, so that is my goal for the near future.

Q: Where did you grow up?

A: I grew up in a small town on Long Island called Lindenhurst. We only had one high

Q: Which college did you attend?

A: I graduated from FAU.
