Q: What do you consider your greatest “teacher trait or skill?”

A: I wasn’t always a teacher. Before becoming a teacher, I was a business consultant. So I know how to take science and relate it to how it’s used in the real world. So often I get asked by students, “Why do we need to know this? What am I ever going to use this for?” I know how to answer that question because I’ve used science in life, and not to do science experiments.

Q: What’s something you remember from when you were in school (k-12)?

A: My 6th-grade teacher, Ms. Lepore. She helped me understand how good I could be. It took me some time to realize it, but she’s the reason why I became successful in school.

Q: So far, what is your favorite memory you’ve made teaching?

A: Easy…in a previous year, I had a student who hated science. In fact, he hated school. He was in a lot of fights at the beginning of the year. It took a while, but he and I developed a great relationship, and he not only passed my class, but he did well on his FSA. It was a complete turnaround. He’s now doing well in high school and sends me emails to tell me how he’s doing.

Q: We know what you do here, but what is your life like outside of school?

A: I love riding mountain bikes. I’ve raced bikes my entire life, so I spend a lot of time riding. I also have a son and a daughter, who I spend a lot of time with.
