Start with hello is one of the four programs of the Sandy Hook Promise national non-profit organization. The program is meant to teach children how to be more socially inclusive and connected to each other. Most teens and young adults suffer silently because they are alone. One study reports that chronic loneliness increases our risk of an early death by 14%. In addition, children who are socially isolated can become victims of bullying, violence, and depression. As a result, many pull away from society and choose to hurt themselves or others.  This program is meant to raise awareness and educate students about the effect of just saying hello to someone. Someone could be deciding to hurt themselves, but that one hello would make them stop.
