In January 2024, an experimental rule was approved that allowed double touch for setters, which means they can technically touch the ball twice. If this happened before the rule was changed, the point would automatically go to the other team. The difference between a win and a loss is that it could count on how capable your setter is.
So why did they drastically change the game suddenly? According to the NCAA, they did this because it would “make the game more entertaining” and “allow more players the opportunity to compete and to increase action and improve play.”
All in all, this is an experimental change so, if it does not “play” out as planned they can always decide to change it.
