The International Space Station (ISS) has recently shared a view of the Northern Lights from space. In a time-lapse posted on CNN, astronaut Mathew Dominick stated, “I was just fooling around with a new camera lens. and suddenly we were in front of the Aurora Borealis.”
The Russian spacecraft “SOYUZ” was visible in front of the camera in the video posted by CNN as well.
The Northern Lights have been more active recently due to coronal mass ejections, which are huge clouds of ionized gases called Plasma, as well as magnetic fields that erupt from the sun’s outer atmosphere. When these coronal mass ejections come about, they can cause geomagnetic storms and/or major disturbances to Earth’s magnetic field.
Next time someone says there will be a view of the Northern Lights, venture outside to take a look! It is always a sight to see!
