On August 26, the National Hurricane Center identified the developing hurricane
In the central Atlantic. It didn’t show any significant signs of development until September 8th,
When it was organized enough to be identified as a possible cyclone. The storm continued to gain strength as it entered the Gulf Of Mexico, and on Wednesday, September 11th, it made landfall in Louisiana as a category 2 hurricane.
The hurricane brought mostly heavy rain, the rain total came to over 12.75Â inches over theÂ
North shore along the lake and the New Orleans metro. The heavy rain also brought flooding to not only Louisiana but also the surrounding states, such as south Texas. Parts of New Orleans are still under a flash flood warning.
Hurricane Francine didn’t just bring rain, It also brought winds with speeds up to 102 mph that caused power outages for most of the housing in southeast Louisiana. It damaged many parts of Louisiana, south Texas, and even some of Florida. The estimated cost of total damages is around 9 billion dollars and President Joe Biden declared it a major disaster, but volunteers from around the county are coming to help residents affected and helping to rebuild.
