If you think that this summer seems a bit hotter than usual, you are not the only one. The average global temperatures for the months of June, July, and August are about 1.25°C hotter than the normal summer temperature. The average highs here in Palm Beach peak at a blistering 89°F!
Global warming and climate change are the causes of this situation. According to Gavin Schmidt, the director of GISS (Goddard Institute of Space Studies), “Data from multiple record-keepers show that the warming of the past two years may be neck and neck, but it is well above anything seen in years prior, including strong El Niño years. This is a clear indication of the ongoing human-driven warming of the climate.”
Given the trend of rising global summer temperatures, it would not be a surprise if summer 2025 will be even hotter than this one. Until then, the title of hottest summer belongs to 2024.
