Q: How long have you been teaching at WLMS?
A: I’m starting my fifth year at Wellington Landings Middle School. During that time, I taught for three years in our ESE unit and served as the ESE Coordinator for one.
Q: What made you want to be a teacher/staff member?
A: Even though I come from a family of educators, I initially went to nursing school after graduating high school. While in college, I worked for an amazing afterschool program that made me realize I was pursuing the wrong field. Working with students brought (and still brings!) me the greatest joy in life. I went back to school, earned my Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, and eventually my Master’s Degree. It was the best decision I’ve ever made.
Q: What did you want to do when you were little?
A: I wanted to be an astronaut! I am passionate about space and astrophysics (I just can’t do the math). I love reading anything by Neil deGrasse Tyson.
Q: What is it like working with your siblings?
A: Working with my siblings has been a very unique and special experience. Mr. Greg and I worked together while I was still teaching, a bonding experience, unlike anything we’d shared before. Watching him grow as an educator, especially with the students in our unit, has been one of the most fulfilling moments of my life. I am so proud of him and his accomplishments. He is a natural leader and has a wonderful relationship with his students. My sister, Mrs. Lumley, is new to the Gator Family but has taught for many years. When I was in high school, I would volunteer in her classroom when she taught Kindergarten. I have always looked to her for inspiration and attribute my passion for education to her guidance. Hearing from my eighth graders who have her as a teacher is delightful. I’m so glad she’s finally working here and I wish I could have had her as my math teacher in middle school. I love working at WLMS because we truly are a family here—siblings or not!
