On July 28th, 2024, Olympic star Simone Biles qualified for the US women’s gymnastics team despite limping on her left leg and claiming a calf issue.
Although she was injured, it didn’t affect her overall score. She completed qualifying and led the all-around standings with a total of 59.566. Her coach commented on her performance, saying, “I can’t express it. I’m proud of her and what she’s been through and what she’s showing the world what she’s capable of doing.”
She also mentions that this injury has been bothering Biles for a while, and there was no discussion of sidelining the seven-time Olympic medalist. Even though Simone performed well, she was seen tweaking her injured leg while warming up on the floor exercise, and shortly after, she with Team USA doctor Marcia Faustin—an eerily similar scene to what played out in Tokyo when Biles dropped out of the team competition to protect her safety.
