Fueled by the continuous efforts of legislation to place a national ban on TikTok, a social media app owned by ByteDance, a Chinese Company, is facing more than a dozen lawsuits by various U.S. States, as well as the District of Columbia.
This large conglomerate of Attorney Generals is actively attempting to settle for a ban of TikTok either in the states, or effectively securing a national ban of the social media app.Â
This comes as the second effort this past year to get the app banned is succeeded, though is highly unlikely to work as a result of counter-lawsuits by ByteDance and TikTok.
Claims against TikTok, such as the fueling of dopamine in children and adolescents being damaging, are one of the more used claims against the company. Alongside this, the states claim that endless content can attract viewers, eventually making them addicted to the app.
Accompanying these claims, other claims such as the app inducing long-term psychological effects such as anxiety and body dysmorphia are also used.
