Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is a thrilling mine train coaster that opened on September 2nd, 1979. January 5, 2025, will be the last day to ride the popular Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World. There is no reopening date so far but a spokesperson for Walt Disney World has said on Good Morning America that, “The attraction will reopen with a little bit of magic in 2026.” Disney World has said that the refurbishment will mostly be part of the ride that can not be seen from the guest’s view.
Walt Disney World rides often undergo refurbishment every couple of years, especially as rides age. This year, the popular Jungle Cruise boat ride, which opened the same day the Magic Kingdom park opened, has been closed for refurbishment since August 2024.
