After a disappointing season, Buck Showalter was fired as the New York Mets manager. 67-year-old Showalter stated before a game against Philadelphia that he would not be returning next year, and the Mets team had decided on the change.
After this decision, Showalter discussed how he feels honored to be able to have managed the Mets, and how he was proud of what they had accomplished, and of the close-to 180 games they’ve won in 2 years. Wishing that things would have turned out better this season, he expresses his ongoing love for the team and the city of New York.
David Stearns has recently been hired as the new president of baseball operations above manager general Billy Eppler. Showalter’s departure is closing in on only a year left on his 3-year contract while Stearn begins to look for and pick a new manager to take his spot.
