Flamingos are fascinating creatures and have many distinctive features that make them different from other species. A unique trait that flamingos possess is their vibrant pink color. They get this color from their food source (algae and shrimp). According to “Natural Geographic,” “A flamingo’s beak has a filterlike structure to remove food from the water before the liquid is expelled.” This process breaks down the food, and then the flamingo absorbs the pigment into its body; making it pink.
The second cool characteristic about flamingos is that they rest standing on one leg. The position in yoga called the “flamingo pose” is named after them, because it resembles the movement that they do.
Flamingos also eat with their head upside down. It is said to be so because their upper jaw is not rigidly fixed to the skull, so to complete the jaw reversal they must turn their head upside down. The last interesting fact about flamingos is that, group of flamingos is called a flamboyance. It is such a fun name for a unique group of animals. Personally, flamingos are truly the most interesting bird in the animal kingdom.
