A gigantic Mayan city was discovered centuries after it had disappeared. Archaeologists started digging into it and found pyramids, sports fields, causeways connecting districts, and an amphitheater. A PhD student discovered the city.
It was a lidar survey, which is a remote-sensing strategy that fires thousands of pulses from an airplane and maps objects. When a man named Mr Auld-Thomas was doing this process he had seen something that the others had missed. He saw a huge ancient city. Mr Auld-Thomas and his peers named the city Valeriana after a lagoon located nearby.
Valeriana is a 15-minute hike located near a major road named Xpujil. There aren’t any known pictures due to nobody knowing about it. Thanks to Lidar technology, the city was able to be discovered along with the help of Mr Auld-Thomas.dx
