The rating for Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi has been upgraded from U to PG. The main reason for this is the scene where it shows Han Solo in carbonite, which many thought was too violent to be considered U. The BBFC also noted the film features “mildly bad language” and that the overall intensity was what helped them come to the decision to change the rating.
It was given the rating U for “Universal” in 1983, but recently it’s been changed. The ratings body decided that “the detail and overall intensity” of the film’s violence should be rated PG, which stands for “parental guidance”. A PG rating suggests that some content featured in a film may not be suitable for children, and that they should be accompanied by their parents or guardians as discretion is advised.
