Every year, on the second Sunday of March and the first Sunday of November, we set our clocks ahead one hour and back one hour. Both have many great benefits.
We set our clocks ahead one hour on the second Sunday of March so that people can use daylight more. This is also called “springing forward”. Longer daylight hours also promote safety. More daylight in the evening makes it safer for people walking/jogging and children playing outside.
In addition, the crime rate drops significantly due to the increase in light. This makes identifying criminals easier, increasing the risk of getting caught after committing crimes.
Setting our clocks back one hour on the first Sunday of November is also called “falling back”. “Falling back” is great because people get an extra hour of sleep. Getting an extra hour of sleep is very important especially since technology and other setbacks keep us from getting enough rest.
