There is a long and extremely interesting history of figure skating that a lot of people might not know about. Figure skating is a sport in which ice skaters perform jumps, spins, lifts, and footwork of dancing in a graceful manner on ice.
Figure skating began in the mid-1860s and became part of the Winter Olympic Games in 1924 but became an official Olympic sport in 1908. Robert Jones, an Englishman apparently started figure skating in 1772.
The first female to start figure skating was Madge Cave Syers and the first male to start figure skating was Jackson Haines. The purpose of figure skating is to get around on ice into the elegant mixer of an art and sport it is today.
Even though figure skating is considered the oldest winter game, it is still an amazingly fun and artistic sport to participate in during the winter season with family and friends, and also on hotter days where ice skating rinks are also available.
