Gerry Faust was a former head football coach at Notre Dame. Sadly, on Tuesday, November 12, he died at age 89.
During his life, Gerry Faust was able to achieve his dream of becoming a head coach at Notre Dame.
Faust started out as a high school coach and worked at Archbishop Moeller, a new high school. His team won 9 seasons and 10 city championships.
In 1981, Faust was selected to coach Notre Dame. This caused a public outcry. No one wanted a high school coach to be taking over a college team.
Unfortunately, he was fired before the 1985 season.
After being fired, he spent the next nine seasons as the head coach of the University of Akron and continued to work in various areas at Akron after retiring.
Faust still has stayed true to Notre Dame, even after being fired. “I have always loved Notre Dame and still do,” says Faust.
