The population of Iguanas in the South Florida area, like our school, has seen a growing population of invasive species of lizards called Iguanas. These animals can grow up to 7 feet and eat native plants in our area, damaging native populations.
Directly from a student at our school” Green iguanas are a green scourge for us right now,” he said. “I used to work to conserve iguanas, but what’s been happening with this explosion, now I’m working on removing them.”
Over the past years, the temperature of Florida during the winter has become more adjusted to suit iguanas and their growth causing the increase in damaging our school area due to their style of life such as digging tunnels, eating native plants, starving native animals that keep the school clean and healthy, hiding under roofs, etc.
These animals are a threat to our school and South Florida in general.
