The 2024 Hurricane season was one of the most deadly and costliest ever, with seven Hurricanes making landfall. It was only one of five seasons with two or more category 3 storms making landfall in Florida.
The first hurricane to hit Florida, Hurricane Helene was one of the most deadly hurricanes ever, with a category 4 strength. It made landfall in the Big Bend region of Florida, which had around 15 feet of storm surge and 120 mph winds. Helene later moved into North Carolina, causing around 30 inches of rainfall in some areas and causing a ton of damage in the state.
Unfortunately, 13 days after Helene made landfall, Hurricane Milton made landfall near Tampa, Florida. In less than 48 hours, Hurricane Milton transformed from a small tropical storm to a deadly 180 mph, category 5 storm. Hurricane Milton also caused a tornado outbreak over the state of Florida, spawning around 50 tornadoes throughout the state. Unfortunately, people in our community were affected by the tornadoes. This hurricane season was extremely deadly and a reminder that you must stay safe during a hurricane.
