On January 7th, 2025 a horrible wildfire started in Palisades, California. 6380 structures were destroyed including homes and businesses. At least 27 people died and around 88000 people were affected by this fire alone. The fires have continued.
Another fire in Eaton, California spread about 14,000 acres. 17 people died and 7000 structures were destroyed. There have been 31 fires so far and all but 2 are contained. Almost 38000 acres have been burned so far.
The cause for these fires is not yet known but it is likely caused by power lines blowing in the wind. The most important thing is stopping these fires. They are doing that with aerial firefighting. That means taking special planes that can hold up to 3000 gallons of water and dropping it over the fires.
