On January 28, 2025, Darren Watkins Jr., better known as IShowSpeed, was declared honorary mayor of Peru’s capital, Lima, for only one hour.
Leading up to him receiving the certifications and such, he walked through the city hall with the actual mayor, Rafael Lopez Aliaga.
Then, he’d make his way to where he’d sign his signature, effectively becoming mayor of Peru’s capital for only an hour. In this time, he spent much of it showing out for the city and crowds on the city hall’s balcony.
Not only was he declared just mayor of Lima, he also became an official ambassador for Peru. With his limited time though, he wasn’t able to make any drastic changes, or any at all for that matter.
If he did have more time though, he still would have to abstain from moving with any processes in general, as the streamer’s political knowledge is likely not the best, and could potentially do more damage than good.
