The world’s smelliest plant (Amorphophallus gigas)
In Brooklyn Botanic Garden, a crowd of people line up to whiff the world’s worst-smelling plant. Experts describe the smell as something that “resembles that of rotting flesh”. Tourist Elijah Blades says “It smells like feet, cheese, and rotten meat. It just smelled like the worst possible combination of smells.”
The Amorphophallus gigas (commonly known as a corpse flower) is the flower in question. This is its first time blooming since being in Brooklyn in 2018. It is native to Sumatra, related to the Amorphophallus titanium, and known for its scent and height.
This flower only blooms for a couple of days and can take many years until its next bloom, so make sure you don’t miss its scent!!
