As of 2022, the AKC, or the American Kennel Club, declares that the new most popular dog breed is the French bulldog, no longer the Labrador Retriever. French Bulldogs were bred for companionship in the mid- to late 1800s and are considered a toy breed. French bulldogs were bred in France and are created by breeding an English bulldog and French rat terrier together. The Labrador Retriever was number one for 31 years. Then the French bulldogs took over as the number one spot. The French bulldog weighs about 28 pounds and has a life expectancy of about 10 to 12 years. They are playful and loving and do not need much grooming or exercise.
Getting a French bulldog can cost about 1500 to 4500 dollars from a breeder. French bulldogs can have brindle colors, which is caused by a mix of fawn and black hair colors. Fawn, peir, and tan are breed colors for French bulldogs.Â
