In a suburb of Detroit, Royal Oak, Michigan, there is a tradition that is held every easter that has been going on for over 30 years. Each year, the Oakland County Parks releases thousands of marshmallows onto a park for participants to catch. The most recent happening of this event was on April 19th, 2025, at Worden Park in Detroit, Michigan.
This year there were 15,000 marshmallows were dropped from a helicopter. The event split up all the participants by age, making sure that all of the kids could get a marshmallow. The age groups consisted of 4 years and younger, ages 5-7, and ages 8-12. There was also a separate drop for kids with disabilities. Instead of eating the marshmallow, which might be dirty, the participants who collected at least one marshmallow were able to exchange it for a bag with prizes, including a kite and admission to a local waterpark.Â
