Math shouldn’t be taught in schools after second grade. Some of us may enjoy math but most of us don’t. Think about it, when are we going to use the Pythagorean Theorem in real life unless you want to be a mathematician. Hence why we should give a free period or extra elective in maths place.
If children did want to pursue math the school district could give them math as one of their electives. Giving children a sense of freedom from a boring subject that isn’t needed in daily life, could make kids want to go to school more. Especially if they switched math for field days or for fun activities that could make kids have more social cues and get off their phones.
Maybe some schools could swap math out for a more useful subject like for middle schoolers, taxes and economic trades. For high schoolers, how to pay rent, get a job, buy a house, learn how to cook. For elementary students they could have more arts and crafts, behavioral lessons, and safety lessons.
