AI has integrated into our everyday lives over the past few months, it seems as if AI can be found anywhere at this point. One area of life that few anticipated was AI coming into sports.
A youth soccer team from New York has started adding AI to their games by installing a device that can track every kick, pass, and clear. The device stands about 21 feet. They bring this camera device to every game to keep track of the score, and with this, they are able to get a fair score.
The camera keeps track of which player is which with the numbers on their jerseys. After each game, the coach is able to review the footage and even play it on the TV like a big-time game. The company that makes these cameras is called ‘Trace’, they have over 100,000 subscribers and more than 10,000 cameras in use nationwide. This device could end the debate on whether coaches are making fair calls and keeping score correctly.
But this isn’t the only way AI could be used for sports. With AI technology, we could help athletes better train for games, especially if they have injuries, because
AI could take that into account and form a training routine accordingly. It could help save athletes’ careers by predicting injuries that could happen and alert the coach.
