The Carnevale di Venezia was invented in 1162 as a military victory celebration and was made into an official holiday in 1296. It was banned in 1797 and revived in the 1970s and 1980s. Next year, the festival will be from January 21, 2026 to February 17, 2026.
There are so many things to do during the Carnevale di Venezia. Some of them are watching the Flight of the Angel, enjoying street performances, exploring the city, visiting St. Mark’s Square, and even attending a masquerade ball.
The masquerade ball is held in various historical places. Some include the Ridotto of the Hotel Monaco and Grand Canal, the Palazzo Zen, Hotel Saturnia, and Palazzetto Pisani. There are many masquerade balls held during the Carnevale di Venezia, but a typical one consists of cocktails, a gala dinner, themed entertainment, and dancing.
People are required to wear a mask and masquerade attire to the ball. People can either rent costumes and masks, or they can purchase one. Those are just a few things you can do there, there are so many more activities.
