The Buccaneers, in most people’s eyes, were the best team in the NFL by a good margin. They were consistently getting yards against every team they played, and had the best record in the league. Led by the NFL’s MVP favorite, Baker Mayfield, they were looking like Super Bowl winners. Why wouldn’t they be the best?
The Lions. Despite all this, the Bucs’ momentum was completely lost against the Lions. Not only were they held to a mere 9 points, but the Lions scored 24 points on them. The same injury-riddled Lions, who were playing with a near fourth-string defense. The Bucs’ goal was to stop the run, which evidently failed. Jahmyr Gibbs put on an absolute show against the Buccaneers, with 136 yards and 2 touchdowns. Not to mention Jared Goff throwing a near 70% completion rate, with 241 passing yards.
A team that many considered to be the best, a Super Bowl favorite, was completely destroyed by a mostly injured team. In my opinion, this loss shows that the Bucs were way overhyped.
