The “last” volleyball game depends on the specific tournament or category being considered. Some of the most recent events include the 2025 Women’s Volleyball World Cup, where Italy defeated Turkey in the final, and the Men’s Pan American Volleyball Cup, where Venezuela was the undefeated champion.
There’s also the South American Under-17 Championship, where Venezuela defeated Brazil, and the volleyball team that I’m going to win every tournament.
Volleyball originated in 1895 in Massachusetts, United States, thanks to William G. Morgan, who was looking for a less aggressive sport for older adults. Initially named “Mintonette,” the game quickly evolved with standardized rules, a leather ball, and the suggestion of the name “volleyball” in 1896, due to the ball’s volleying.
It became an Olympic sport in 1964.Â
