In 2023, the growth of four trillion music streams were fueled by Taylor Swift.

The global music industry exceeded four trillion streams, which is a new single-year record. Streams were up 34% from last year.

Taylor Swift made up 1.79% of the U.S. market, accounting for one in every 78 U.S. on-demand audio streams. That means that for every 78 songs a Swift song played. She accounts for five out of the top 10 albums in the U.S. on Luminate’s 2023 top album chart.

Even though Swift made up a majority of the streams and her massive success has fueled so much, one genre is still superior. Accounting for a whopping 25.5% of all streams, hip-hop continues to rule the music industry.

On August 11, 2023, hip-hop celebrated its 50th anniversary. Parties and celebrations were held around the world to honor the ruler of the global music streams of 2023.
