Some parents don’t give their children any household responsibilities, and they should. It gives kids something to do around the house instead of playing video games all day and rotting their brains. Not to mention, it also teaches kids responsibility and time management.
Giving kids chores helps them prepare for the future when they have a house of their own and need to take care of it. Giving them tasks like taking out the trash, loading the dishwasher, feeding pets, folding laundry, cleaning up after dinner, etc., are things that they will eventually have to do, so why not start early?
Kids don’t generally like doing chores so adding a reward might help. Telling them they can get money, extra screen time, a new toy, etc., will prompt them to do the task and receive the reward.
Children can learn time management from completing chores. They can learn how to find time in their daily schedule to do their chores, which will help them in the future when they need to make their daily plan.
