Former Basketball pro Jason Collins has been diagnosed with stage 4 glioblastoma. He made his diagnosis public on December 11th on the ESPN website. His family made a vague statement in September stating that Collins had a brain tumor. He stated that,” They did that to protect my privacy while I was mentally unable to speak for myself and my loved ones were trying to figure out what they were dealing with.”
Glioblastoma is an aggressive form of cancer with no cure. He has revealed that the cancer has a growth factor of 30%. He went on to say it was a “wild type” with “mutations.” He had been having “weird symptoms” After a CT scan at UCLA they arranged him with a specialist.
He plans to undergo treatment even though there is no cure. The treatment might slow down the growth and reduce symptoms. ”Within days, I started coming out of my fog.” His goal is to “Hit the cancer in ways its never been hit.”
