English soccer player Conor Gallagher has joined Tottenham for $40 million dollars after being with Atletico Madrid for only 17 months. The 25-year-old midfielder left Chelsea for Atletico in the summer of 2024, mainly to help his boyhood club comply with the Premier League’s more strictly financial rules. He returns to the Premier League to one of Chelsea’s fiercest rivals, the Tottenham Spurs.
“I’m so happy and excited to be here, taking the next step in my career at an amazing club,” Gallagher stated in an interview. “I wanted to be a Spurs player and thankfully the club felt the same. It was very easy, it happened very quickly and I’m ready to get on the pitch.”
If Gallagher does well in the second half of the Premier League season, he could probably force his way into England’s World Cup team. His last appearance for the national team was the match with England against Senegal in June 2025. He wasn’t in England coach Thomas Tuchel squad for games in September, October and November, so Conor is looking to impress the German ahead of the World Cup being held in North America.
Facing a midfield crisis with key players like Bentancur, Maddison, Kulusveski, and Kudus sidelined, Tottenham accelerated their pursuit for Conor Gallagher, fending off rivals like Aston Villa to bring in the energetic midfielder for crucial strength and leadership.
