Alysa Liu started skating at a very young age, 5 to be exact. She was inspired to start skating when her dad took her to the Oakland Skating Rink. Two legendary skaters inspired like Michelle Kwan and Kristi Yamaguchi. Michelle Kwan inspired Alysa by being a pioneering Chinese-American figure skating icon, and also for her competitiveness, grace and story resonated with the Liu family.
Alysa also first competed in her first competition when she was 5, which led her to competing at national levels by the age of 7. She was the youngest female to win in the U.S. Championship title at the young age of 13 in 2019. She then competed in the 2022 Winter Olympics after her big win in 2019.
Alysa retired in April of 2022, she was 16 at the time. Her retirement came after she competed in the Winter Olympics of 2022 in Beijing. Her cause of retiring was burnout and she wanted to pursue other opportunities that she was not able to experience when she was competing.
In 2024 she returned to the sport more lively and energetic. She then won gold at the 2025 World Championships, this led her to competing for team USA in the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan.
In 2026 at the Winter Olympics in Milan she competed alongside her teammates Amber Glenn and Ilia Malinin to name 2 out of the many others. Her programs were “Promise” by Laufey for her short program and for her free skate, she skated to “MacArthur Park Suite” by Donna Summer which won her gold for her team. She skated to “Stateside” by PinkPantheress and Zara Larsson at the 2026 Winter Olympics gala. The song gained even more recognition and popularity after Alysa skated to it.
