Teacher Spotlight: Mrs. Samarel

Teacher Spotlight: Mrs. Samarel
Mrs. Samarel

Mrs Samarel is a history teacher who teaches 6th grade and is in room 911 in the pods in the back of the school. Here are some questions that she has answered.

Q1    What is your favorite lesson to teach in history?

I love to teach about Ancient Rome.  Visiting the Colosseum and other relics of Ancient Rome on vacation have really helped me connect to the civilizations.

Q2    What’s your favorite part of teaching?

The AHa moment is my favorite part of teaching.  I love it when students grasp a new concept or make a connection I may not have thought of.

Q3   How many years have you been teaching?

This is my 18th year teaching and my 17th year at Wellington Landings.

Q4   Have you ever gone out of the country before? If so, what country?

Yes, many times.  My favorite country to visit is Ireland. I was lucky enough to be able to study abroad there in college.

Q5   What was your favorite subject when you were in middle school?

My favorite subject in middle school was Social Studies.  I especially loved Geography and World History.

Q6  What’s it like teaching 6th grade?

6th grade is awesome.  I love seeing the growth in my students from August to May.

Q7   Why did you decide to be a teacher?

Growing up I never thought I was going to be a teacher.  My mom was a first grade teacher and I didn’t think that was for me, but I love history and want to share my love of history with others.

Q8   What college did you attend and what was your major?

I attended Florida State University where I majored in Interdisciplinary Social Sciences with a concentration in History and Geography.
