On Sunday, the 12th of October, the remnants of Typhoon Halong destroyed many coastal towns in Alaska. One woman was killed, at least 50 people had to be rescued from their rooftops, and 2 people were unaccounted for. Luckily, later that fateful day, troopers had confirmed that no one was missing. People impacted by the storm reported that there had been power outages, a lack of running water, and the food that was stocked in their freezers was ruined. All of this damage could make the upcoming winter difficult for the region where fish and hunt for food.
At least 1,000 victims of this storm system were left homeless. Homes were ripped from their foundations and were floating from mudslides and flooding. Flooding that reached over 6 ft high, and most of these houses floating were not empty of people. They had families trapped in them. Hopefully, these people can recover from this tragedy and get their homes close enough to what they used to be.
