With the men’s World Cup kicking off in 6 months, fans should be excited to see their National Soccer teams play in North America next year. But, after the latest phase of ticket sales was launched this week, doing so might cost fans with a ticket for the cost of more than $4,000. Such prices have triggered outrage from many fans across the world, with some of the most loyal soccer fans being priced out of the tournament.
A wave of criticism has come after FIFA allocated tickets to national associations for participating teams on Thursday, December 11, in what the governing body calls the Participating Member Association (PMA) allocation. It supposedly essentially allows individual federations to sell tickets to their most valued loyal fans, who qualify through supporter groups or loyalty schemes. Many of these very passionate fans, who have spent years following their team, are now facing a challenge to save up a crazy amount of cash or watch from their home and save their bank balance.
According to the FSE and information available to them, a loyal fan would need to pay at least $6,900 to follow their team from the first group stage of the game to the final. The FSE has stated “ that’s nearly five times as much” as during the previous World Cup in Qatar 2022.
