The vocabulary bowl might seem like a little competition that students compete in but it’s not the best way to learn. Most students just memorize the meaning of the words to get points. They start to shove the words into their heads for a minute but then they forget them as soon as the game ends. That isn’t real learning.
It also causes too much stress. When school feels like a giant race it is not really fun anymore because they are trying to get as many words as possible to just compete in this race. This might make students quit doing their homework.
It’s better to know a few words really well than to guess a hundred words just to win. Knowing how to correctly format the words and use them in a sentence is more important than a competition. I think we should just stick to old school just reading books and answering a book log
