For the past months there have been sightings of a toucan flying around in the skies of Sin city (otherwise known as Las Vegas). Fortunately it has been rescued, according to a bird rescue group. Skye Marsh the co-founder and president of the Southwest Exotic Avian Rescue said “We’ve all just been so worried about him.” and “It’s a relief.”
The toucan, which has been deemed as Sam, has apparently been living in Las Vegas all the way since November. Sam left enthusiasts and bird experts concerned about his health for being an exotic bird in a city with drastic changes in weather. Sam the toucan flew into someone’s garage and thankfully the owners knew who he was and closed the garage so he wouldn’t escape. After he was caught he was taken to a veterinarian to check him. The only signs of damage to him were dehydrated skin and a chip off his beak. He was confirmed to be ok though.
Sam has been getting better and he will be in quarantine at a member of the staff’s house for about a month or more to make sure he does not get the “bird flu” which can spread to other birds at the rescue according to Skye. Although we are all happy for his rescue this bird sure captivated the public after his survival in the desert for months.
