At Wellington Landings, teachers should give out more extra credit because it can really help students. Sometimes kids understand the lessons, but they do badly on one test or forget one homework assignment. That one bad grade can lower their average a lot. Extra credit gives students a second chance to show that they are trying and that they care about school. Everyone makes mistakes, especially students who are still learning. Â
Another reason teachers should give more extra credit is because not every student learns the same way. Some students are not the best test takers, even when they study and know the material. A timed test does not always show how smart a student really is. Extra credit can give those students another way to prove they understand what they are learning in class.
Teachers should also give more extra credit because grades are important to students and their families. A few extra credit points can make a big difference at the end of the quarter. It can help a student raise a low grade and feel proud of doing better. Extra credit should not replace regular work, but it should be there to help students who are trying their best and want a fair chance.
