NASA’s Artemis II mission made history in space exploration. Launched under the Artemis program, it was the first mission that put astronauts into a lunar orbit over the Moon after 50 years. Artemis II was launched on Wednesday, April 1, 2026 and successfully landed (splashed down) in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of San Diego on April 10, 2026. The powerful Orion spacecraft and Space Launch System sent the crew thousands of miles beyond Earth.
Although the mission required an orbit around the Moon, there was no landing because this mission was necessary to determine whether everything functioned properly for the future flight. The mission set the conditions for Artemis III, which aims to land astronauts again on the Moon.
Artemis II confirmed that humans could make deep space travel again. It also inspired the whole world. This has shown millions of people how this was such an inspiring experience.
