After a drastic change in weather up North, all the spring flowers that were blooming are now suffering with the frigid cold weather. One of the places that was most affected was Bridport where farmers were preparing for nice weather to grow vegetables and other plants.
Although the cold weather isn’t unusual around this time of year, it also goes up until June; but the warm weather at the beginning of April was a little odd. Which played a role with reason as to why the plants started dying or wilting.
In Boston the temperature climbed up to around the high 70s. 2 weeks ago cities like New York, Philadelphia, and Washington D.C. were the temperatures of the 90s. By the following weekend the temperature dropped back down to the 50s. Some like New England experienced snow even.
The following week was filled with freeze warnings and plants drooping. Some of the places that had freeze warnings were parts of Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland and North Carolina. For Ohio the warm weather caused the peach and apple trees to start blooming and budding quite early. According to msn news “However, the temperature then dropped into the low 20s, ruining one variety of peach, said the owner Anne Joudrey.”
