Rec Room is shutting down on June 1, 2026 due to not being able to become a sustainably profitable business. Rec Room had success with over 150 Million people and a 3.5 Billon dollar valuation at their peak. Rec Room had a lot of popularity but still had financial problems with the gaming overcourse and systems. Although rec room has the popularity, it still has a gap between the high operating costs and their revenue.Â
The company only obtained 0.30 of every dollar from each dollar of the players which had caused this financial problem. Rec Room was founded on November 6, 2024 and had a peak of 150 million players all time. Their player count had dropped down to 7,154 players in early 2022 which had the financial impact a big problem for them which led them to plan on shutting down on June 1, 2026. Rec Room was a virtual reality game which had multiple game modes to play on and a customizable player avatar and it will now shut down June 1, 2026.
