Kelly Pribble, a man in New Jersey as well as veteran archivist, is working to restore and preserve old video tapes.
The need to preserve these old tapes is great, as these video tapes contain years of history as well as a lot of memories people may like to look back on.
Pribble unbinds old tapes by soaking them in deionized water, for up to a month. And then putting it in an ultrasonic cleaner to go through all the different layers of the tape. And then to dry he uses a device roughly the size of a doorframe made from audio equipment rack. Where the tape will go up and down the rack being dried off by fans blowing on it.
Thanks to the efforts of Pibble and people who share the same passion for video tapes, it may be possible to fully restore and preserve many of these old video tapes. As well as the history behind them.
